So the block is a Windsor 302 out of a 1993 Bronco and the trans is essentially gonna be an M5R2 out of a 1993 F-150 (its really out of a Bronco but because Im converting it to RWD, It will be the equivalent to one out of a RWD F150). The heads and intake will be from an 89 Mustang (GT40/HO). If I grab injectors, wiring, emissions equipment and an ECU from a manual 89-93 5.0 foxbody, would I need to modify the programming on the ECU at all? Even though the bottom end and the transmission, while technically different are very similar? I mean, OBD1 is rudimentary but is it that rudimentary?

Manual trans is no issue probably no wires at all from it to the computer. Only wire will probably be for the reverse lights.

I believe the 5.0 HO (Mustang) has a different firing order. I don’t think the bottom end is compatible with the mustang computer.

Ford’s EEC IV was almost as good as it gets for EFI. Adaptable and intuitive.

There’s no GT40 89 Mustang. Not stock at least. The only true production GT40 was the 1G Lightning and 93 GT-R.

Youre right cylinders 3 and five as well as 7 and 4 are switched between the bronco and the stang

You know, depending what you want to do with the truck i’d really be tempted to convert it to a carb. The EEC EFI system is alright, but once you start modding it from stock you need the proper equipment to tune it and it starts getting expensive. If you want a daily driver with a stock idle, good mileage, and all your gauges working like factory then by all means tackle the wiring and the EFI. Otherwise, say hello to to a rumbling idle, snappy throttle response, and a quick install. Bolt it on and take it to the oldest speed shop in the area to let them adjust the carb and set the timing curve.

You could just ditch the injectors and go for a carb.

Use the cam (and firing order) from the Mustang also and it would work.

Cant Convert to Carb. Colorado engine swap laws are as follows:

- Donor block is same type of vehicle

- Donor block is same make

- Donor block is same year or newer

- Donor block has same emissions equipment as the block it is replacing

So I can only use a 1993 or newer fuel injected Ford truck engine that doesnt have an EGR valve, has 2 cats and a MAF sensor. Which is what I got, although I will have to convert it to MAF

fair enough but the 89 HO mustang heads are stamped “GT40". I know theyre Iron so theyre not “real”, but its the same design

- Donor block is same type of vehicle

Not true, you can swap any gas to gas, gas to diesel, or diesel to gas.

- Donor block is same make

Not true, you can LS-Swap your Ranger if you want

- Donor block is same year or newer

This is true

- Donor block has same emissions equipment as the block it is replacing

Not true. The swapped engine has to carry its emissions equipment , you don’t have to fit the Ranger’s emissions to the Windsor.

Wait.... I can do an LS swap? Can I do carbureted too?

nope. Fuel is considered part of emissions control, it has to be donor equivalent or newer
